El Penedès is a region only at 40 mint driving from Barcelona (south west) with a easy tryp by highway.
Your extensión and economic weight, make to two sub-divisions : Alt Penedès and Baix Penedès.
You can see there, the tipical vineyard landscape, main source of the economic activity in the region.
From here, three or four big brands have internationalized your name, like Torres, Codorniu or Freixenet, but really there are many small family cellars that give the autentic personality at this area.
Codorniu, Freixenet, Torres, Recaredo, Parés Baltà, Gramona and a long list of companies ralated with the wine industry, together with the restaurants-hotels or the agro-tourism, make of this destination a wonderful place.

The fist option will be to leave from Barcelona going to Port de l'Ordal, crossing small town like Catallops o Avinyonet, with the possibility of to buy in a local markets the products from there: wine, cava or fruits.
By a local road, we arrive to St. Pau d'Ordal, where we could to do the first wine testing of ecologic producction in the cellars Albet i Noya. After this, we would continue to Sant Sadurniu, largest town in Alt Penedès, where we visit the emblematic building-cellars of Codorniu, very rich modernist style with a nice visit to the production process of "cava", (aprox. 1,5 hours). In this town also we can visit industrial museums and specialized shops of the wine world.

Rt. Cal Blay vinticinc, high level restaurant in the center of town or the nice Rt. Sol i Vi in Lavern, a few km going to Vilafranca or the very frendly Rt. Sumoll, like a cellars with restaurant, located in La Granada.
In all of them, may prove the good "maridage" between the high quality of the local catalan cuisine with wines and cavas from the region.

As a second option could be expanded to two days with overnight stay at the Hotel-Restaurante Sol i Vi. In the morning, and after a magnificinent breakfast, we would change the landscape going to the coast. Crossing Olèrdola, we will approach to Vilanova i la Geltrú, important fishing port with a beautiful promenade in front the fisherman boats and yachts.
From there, and with only 20 mint by car, we can visit Sitges, probably one of the nicest coast towns in Catalonia, with your promenade full of autentic luxury palaces from starting 20 century (mansions for rich local familys that comeback from America with a big fortunes of your bussiness there), this avenue is named "Promenade des Anglais".
After lunch in the Port and a tasting the famous "Xatò" (in the picture), typical dish of the region, in one of its many restaurants in coastline, we could visit the downtown with a shopping streets . museums and magnificent seaviews.

Other very interesting option, will be to visit the Nature Park in Montserrat. Paradaise for rock climbers and people that like to know one of most specials mountains in the world, with the Basilica of Virgen , the Gaudí chapel, museums and fantastics views around all.
